“As the President of the IRFU for season 2019/20, and long-time supporter of Mixed Ability, it gives me great pleasure to support the hosting of the International Mixed Ability Rugby Tournament 2022 by Sunday’s Well RFC Rebels in Cork in June 2022.
Having been at a number of launches and mixed ability rugby games there is a great enthusiasm for the Tournament and excitement at the preparations required.
Mixed Ability rugby is a wonderful addition to the global family of Rugby and does not classify levels of ability nor does it identify or separate disabled players into different tiers.
The oldest Mixed Ability team is the Swansea Gladiators who are now in their 30th season.
Sundays Well Rebels are Ireland’s first Mixed Ability team and so it is appropriate that they and Cork are hosting IMART in June 2022.
The Tournament is truly a global event with 15 countries being represented, and an estimated 1000+ players from 28 teams competing over the 5 days.
The organization of IMART 2022 is already well underway and participants and visitors will receive a true Irish Cead Mile Failte.
The IRFU have witnessed the benefits of Mixed Ability rugby to all involved and it is an integral part of the grassroots of club rugby.
I personally salute all of those volunteers who work so hard for mixed ability rugby and know that they will have a ball at IMART 2022.
Finally on behalf of the IRFU we are looking forward to the Tournament and anticipate a wonderful event.”
